Earn your Canadian CSIA certification in Japan — no flight to Canada or New Zealand. Levels 1, 2 and 3, taught by Canadian examiners at Niseko, Rusutsu, Kiroro and Moiwa. Resorts vary by level; see each one below. Spaces are limited.

Who does what
Pinnacle
Hosts the CSIA courses run in the Niseko region of Hokkaido, Japan, and runs its own exam preparation clinics. We provide the venue, the logistics, registration and day-to-day support.
CSIA
Runs the certification courses and exams, assesses candidates, and issues the certification. The credential comes from the Canadian Ski Instructors’ Alliance.
Nobody can guarantee
The exam result. It depends on your performance on the day. What we can do is make sure you know exactly where you stand on every task before you walk in.
About CSIA
The CSIA (Canadian Ski Instructors’ Alliance) certification is the most recognised ski instructor system in Canada, with a pathway of four levels. Level 1 is an introductory certification aimed at instructors teaching beginners. From Level 2, the required tasks and terrain difficulty increase, with higher demands on both skiing performance and teaching ability. Levels 3 and above require more comprehensive skills and precise manoeuvres, including long turns, short turns and moguls. Every level emphasises the safety component.
We also offer specialised pre-course training ahead of the official certification courses, conducted by experienced trainers. It helps you become familiar with the skiing standards and teaching frameworks, and gives you practice opportunities before the exam.

CSIA Level 1
The Level 1 certification course is open to anyone interested in becoming an instructor for recreational skiers. Candidates learn basic skiing techniques and teaching methods for beginner to intermediate terrain, receive coaching on technique and feedback on their teaching to meet Level 1 standards. You will also get advice for your long-term development and a clearer picture of how to advance in a ski teaching career. Successful candidates are qualified to teach students from beginner to lower intermediate levels. During the program you can expect a variety of terrain, snow conditions and teaching practice opportunities.
CSIA Level 2
This course is designed to improve "situational teaching" by integrating practical ski teaching methods, an understanding of ski technique, and customer service skills. The Level 2 certification is divided into two branches — skiing and teaching. To attain full Level 2 certification, members must take and pass both branches; it is also possible to take the course and exam for one branch only. Level 2 skiing exam tasks include mid-radius turns, short turns, free skiing, and demonstration of wedge-to-parallel and wedge turns.
CSIA Level 3
Level 3 is an advanced teaching certificate that comprehensively assesses a candidate’s skiing and teaching ability across varied terrain and snow conditions. A Level 3 instructor understands the relationship between skiing skills and performance, skis at an advanced level in any terrain, and adapts lesson plans and teaching methods to the needs of each student. Like Level 2, the certification is divided into skiing and teaching branches, which can be taken together or separately.

3. Registration confirmed
Your registration is formally complete once payment has been received.
4. Pre-exam notification
One week before the exam, CSIA sends a confirmation email with the meeting location and class information.
